Lucas Roche is a versatile film editor, colourist and online editor. He has worked across genres in feature films, broadcast TV, commercials and music promos for a variety of producers including the BBC, Channel 4, Sky Arts, A24, Element Pictures and Warp Films.
His main focus - whatever the project - is on strong, clear and impactful storytelling. Dynamic and eye-catching cuts can be fun, but what he loves most about editing is fine-tuning the almost invisible tools of effective filmmaking - structure, rhythm, and pace.
The edit can be the final draft of the script, and he always looks for how the rushes may suggest possible new combinations and meanings if it helps to further the director’s intention.
Lucas has also written screenplays, marked with a worldwide cinema release of the feature film COCKNEYS vs ZOMBIES which he co-wrote from the director’s initial concept. Learning script structure techniques from a writer’s perspective has undoubtedly benefitted his narrative capabilities as an editor.
As a Head of Department he has frequent experience of co-ordinating Music Score, Sound, and VFX teams, most notably as Lead Editor of THE GALLOWS POLE series for BBC / Element Pictures. As a Colourist and Online Editor he has completed final delivery for Cinema and Broadcast TV.
“I’ve been working with Lucas since 2003 and I can’t recommend him highly enough. A truly gifted drama and documentary editor, able to not only work but thrive at the very highest level. He’s also a highly talented colourist, can do VFX and paint outs, makes a mean flat white and is a genuinely top bloke to boot.”
